Remedial education in business processes (finance, sales
and marketing) is ongoing and
I plan to complete the requirements for an MBA degree
in the future.
Background:
Over the past five years, as an independent IT Architecture
consultant, in the area of design and deployment of
technology infrastructure solutions for the enterprise,
I have been providing quality services to small and medium
size businesses as they adapt their processes to incorporate
newer computing and data communications technologies.
I have been focused on OOAD methodologies that can be
used for a wide variety of activities from Business Process
re-engineering to software engineering. I have
specialized in Java for implementing OO systems. I balance my time
between, teaching and project work. I have trained
corporate staff in all areas of Java, CORBA, XML, RMI, EJB, J2EE
and client-side Java beans. In mentoring and project
assignments, I have been involved with all aspects of the
software development process: analysis, design, implementation,
testing and deployment.
I streamline my solutions to satisfy the business needs
of my customers and have successfully serviced a wide cross-section
of the business spectrum, including: strategic marketing,
manufacturing, retail sales, software development, electronic
commerce, multimedia production, law offices, finance
and accounting, internet service providers and many more.
Prior to my new career as an independent consultant, I
spent four years with Owens
Corning in the information systems
organization in several roles. I successfully designed
and implemented a network management strategy based on SNMP
using the HP-OpenView framework. I also coordinated
a team of vendors to implement the corporate wide Internet access,
external web hosting, intranet information servers and
small vendor ecommerce B2B services.
As the IT Architecture sub-team leader for the strategic
marketing re-engineering group, I gained valuable experience
learning business processes and streamlining technology
solutions to enable these processes.
I also have five years experience as a programmer/analyst
for a mix of Fortune 500 companies, academia and small
businesses. Some of the programming involved laboratory
and factory automation and manufacturing process control.
My experience in the public sector consists of a six
month software design and implementation project for the
Oak Ridge
National Laboratory.
Other Experiences:
I am a second Lieutenant in the U.S.
Civil Air Patrol, and currently serving as the Public Affairs Officer
of the
Raleigh-Wake
Composite Squadron (32048) of the North
Carolina Wing (MER-NC-001).
I served on the board of the Triangle
Java Users Group as the President (2000) and the Treasurer (1999).
I successfully
reorganized the group, completed critical business filings
with the state and federal agencies, raised funds through corporate
sponsorships and membership drives and started programs
to assist new users get Java experience.
In 1999, I served as a volunteer Venue Financial Manager
for the 1999 Special Olympics World Games at the World Games
Festival site in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I served on the board of directors and chair of the marketing committee (1996-1997) of the Owens Corning Federal Credit Union
Honors:
I was invited to give a seminar at a meeting of the American
Society for Industrial Security (Toledo Chapter) on January 16, 1997.
The topic of the seminar was "Introduction to Internet
Services and Security" and the attending members were corporate security
and law enforcement professionals.
These are some of the academic honors I have received over several years in academia:
I fulfilled a childhood ambition to learn to fly planes
and my favorite pastime is exercising the privileges of my
(hard earned) private pilots license. I am a member
of the Raleigh-Wake Composite Civil Air Patrol Squadron (32048)
and am looking forward to flying missions. I enjoy
working with media production technologies and exercising the
creative side of my personality. I have produced
a few video documentaries on a wide variety of contemporary issues.
I am an amateur radio operator (KB8IBV) and volunteer
as a trained storm spotter for the Skywarn
program of the
National
Weather Service. I am an active member of my church and am currently
learning to read music and sing in
the choir. I also enjoy outdoor recreation activities
like basketball, swimming, camping, hiking, canoeing and fishing.
I have a keen interest in global political issues and
may consider becoming active in the political process. I am currently
a permanent resident and will become a naturalized citizen
of the USA in the near future.
